Who we are
HBS Electrical is the trading name of Hackett Brothers Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 09506100. We are an NICEIC approved electrical contractor working across the Black Country and the wider West Midlands.
This notice explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, what we do with it, and what rights you have over it. It covers our website at hbselectrical.co.uk and the way we handle information about customers, enquirers and site contacts.
We are the data controller for the information described here.

What we collect and why
If you visit the website
We collect information about how the site is used. That includes pages viewed, how you arrived at the site, roughly where in the country you are, and what device and browser you used.
Some of this is collected using cookies and similar technologies. None of it runs until you tell us it can, apart from the parts that are strictly necessary to make the site work. You choose what to allow when the cookie banner appears, and you can change your mind at any time. Our cookie policy explains this in full.
We do this because we need to know whether the site works and whether our advertising is worth what we spend on it. The lawful basis is your consent for anything non-essential, and our legitimate interest in running and improving the site for the parts that are strictly necessary.
If you make an enquiry
When you fill in a form, email us, ring us, or message us on WhatsApp, we collect your name, contact details, the address of the property, and whatever you tell us about the work you need.
We use it to reply to you and to price the job. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to someone who has asked us to get in touch. If you go on to book work with us, it becomes necessary for the contract between us.
If you do not go ahead, we keep the enquiry for twelve months and then delete it.
If you become a customer
We collect and hold:
- Your name, address, phone number and email address
- Site contact details where the property is not your own
- Details of the work carried out, including photographs of the installation where relevant
- Test results and certificates, including EICRs, minor works certificates, installation certificates, emergency lighting and PAT testing records
- Quotes, invoices, payment records and correspondence
- Purchase order and reference numbers where you use them
We use this to carry out the work, to certify it, to invoice you, and to keep the records the law and our certification body require us to keep.
The lawful bases are performance of our contract with you, and legal obligation. Electrical certification is not optional record keeping. We are required to produce and retain it, and in some cases to make it available for inspection.
If you work for a business we deal with
If you are a site contact, facilities manager or similar, we hold your name, work contact details and the sites you are responsible for. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in being able to arrange access and carry out work at the properties we are engaged on.
Reminders about future inspections
Where a certificate has an expiry date, we record when the next inspection is due and we may contact you to remind you. Fixed wiring inspections, emergency lighting testing and portable appliance testing all work on a cycle, and a reminder is part of the service.
For existing customers, the lawful basis is our legitimate interest in reminding you about a service we have already provided. You can tell us to stop at any time and we will.
Reviews
After a job we may ask you to leave a review. We do this by email, and sometimes by WhatsApp if we have not heard back. You are under no obligation and it makes no difference to the work or the price.
If you leave a review on Google, that is between you and Google. It is public and we do not control it.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information and we do not pass it to anyone for their own marketing.
We use the following suppliers to run the business, and your information passes through their systems:
| Supplier | What they do |
|---|---|
| Tradify | Job management, scheduling, quoting and invoicing |
| Microsoft | Email, calendar and file storage (Microsoft 365) |
| Automattic | Website hosting (WordPress.com) |
| Website analytics, advertising, and our Google Business Profile | |
| Microsoft Advertising | Advertising measurement |
| Meta | WhatsApp Business messaging |
| Sage | Bookkeeping and accounts |
These suppliers act on our instructions and are not allowed to use your information for their own purposes.
We also share information where we have to:
- NICEIC (Certsure LLP), our certification body, who assess a sample of our work and inspect the records behind it as part of keeping our approval
- Our accountant, for preparing accounts and returns
- HMRC and other authorities, where the law requires it
- Landlords, letting agents or managing agents, where they have instructed us on a property you occupy, and only the certification relating to that property
If we ever sell the business or part of it, customer records would transfer to the buyer. We would tell you if that happened.
Where your information is held
Most of it is held in the UK or the EU.
Tradify is based in New Zealand, which the UK government recognises as providing an adequate level of data protection.
Google, Microsoft and Automattic are US companies and some information may be processed in the United States or elsewhere. Where that happens it is covered by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an equivalent safeguard.
How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Enquiries that do not become jobs | 12 months |
| Certificates and test records | 6 years after the last job, or until superseded by a later inspection, whichever is later |
| Invoices, quotes and accounting records | 6 years after the end of the financial year they relate to |
| Email correspondence | 6 years |
| Website analytics | As set in the relevant tool, currently up to 14 months |
Certification records may be kept longer where the installation history is relevant to the safety of the property. If you ask us to delete your information and we are required to keep some of it, we will tell you what we are keeping and why.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Ask what information we hold about you and get a copy of it
- Have information corrected if it is wrong
- Have information deleted, where we are not required to keep it
- Object to us using your information where our basis for doing so is legitimate interests
- Ask us to restrict what we do with it while a query is sorted out
- Ask for your information in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is what we relied on
Email us and we will deal with it. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.
